📢 Announcement: OpenThaiGPT is Renaming to OpenThai

The OpenThaiGPT project is pleased to officially announce that it is renaming to OpenThai, together with the unveiling of a new project logo.

Reasons for the Name and Logo Change​

  1. The word "GPT" cannot be registered as a trademark — the trademark application for the name OpenThaiGPT was vetoed by OpenAI, which holds the rights to the term GPT.
  2. The previous logo incorporated the Thai national flag — under the law, a national flag cannot be registered as a trademark.

The new logo depicts a cloud with a brain, wearing glasses, conveying the idea of being "the brain of AI for Thailand Cloud" — artificial intelligence running on Thailand's own cloud, in order to promote Thailand's AI Sovereignty in the years ahead.

What Is Not Changing​

  • The project remains open source — Free and Opensource for all Thai people, as before.
  • Models already released (OpenThaiGPT 1.0, 1.5, 1.6, R1) will keep their original names for the historical record, and remain available for download at Hugging Face as before.
  • Past documentation and activities on this website will continue to refer to the name OpenThaiGPT, in accordance with the historical facts of the project.
