Press release

Bangkok, 26 August 2026 — The Artificial Intelligence Entrepreneur Association of Thailand (AIEAT), which convenes the OpenThaiGPT open-model community, welcomes the release of OpenThai 2.0 Legal, a Thai legal large language model published today as open weights on Hugging Face.

For AIEAT, this is about more than one model. It is proof that Thailand's own developers and companies can build frontier-grade, domain-specialized AI in the Thai language, and share it openly so the whole ecosystem can build on it. Rather than depending solely on closed foreign services, Thai organizations can now download a capable legal model, run it on their own hardware from a single 24 GB GPU, and adapt it to their needs. Openness like this compounds — every university lab, startup and agency that fine-tunes, evaluates or deploys the model strengthens Thailand's collective AI capability.

The model was created by the OpenThaiGPT team drawn from AIEAT and iApp Technology, on open NVIDIA Nemotron models using NVIDIA NeMo open libraries, as members of the ThaiLLM initiative. AIEAT sees it as a template for how public institutions, private companies and the developer community can pool talent and data to serve the public good — and as a contribution not only to Thailand but to open Thai- and Southeast-Asian-language AI more broadly.

"Sovereign AI is not only about who owns the compute — it is about who can build, inspect and improve the models. OpenThai 2.0 Legal shows that a Thai open-source community can produce a model that genuinely masters Thai law. We invite every developer, researcher and institution in Thailand and the region to build on it."

— Dr. Charnwit Boonchuay, President, AIEAT
